How to disable Siri on Mac and iOS . Apple’s virtual assistant,  Siri, can be useful , fun and sometimes irritating. You can ask him to do almost anything for you from translation, to getting information about the weather or news, scheduling calls and sending text messages, finding a fairy tale or movie times or checking your emails if you are too lazy to do it. .

Before Siri, iOS users had  voice control even though it had fewer features and allowed you to control only your Phone, Music and FaceTime apps by speaking into your iPhone’s microphone.

Siri has replaced Voice Control to make it easier to perform tasks, but he also makes many mistakes. Also, if you are too concerned about your privacy, you won’t want Siri to listen to everything you say.

If you don’t use Siri or hate it so much that you want to add a “Siri Kill” button on your Mac or iOS device, we’ll show you how to disable Siri on Mac and iOS. You should know that disabling Siri means that you cannot use any type of voice control, which is also Voice Dial or Dictation.

How to disable Siri on your iOS device

There are two ways to disable Siri on your iOS device: partially, by disabling only some features you don’t want, or by turning them off completely from the device lock screen.

Both of these settings can be activated or deactivated from the Settings app by accessing the Siri and Search menu  .

For example, if you choose to disable the feature that allows Siri to actively listen to the “Hey Siri” command, this setting will be disabled and Siri will not be accidentally activated.

If you just want to disable or completely disable Siri, you can disable it completely by going to  Settings> Siri and Search  and disable the Listen for Hey Siri settings   and  press the side button for Siri .

A warning will appear on your iOS device to disable Siri, so tap  Disable Siri  to disable it completely and turn it off on your device.

Once Siri is disabled on iOS, the next step is usually to remove all the voice data of anything you have said to it , which is transmitted to Apple servers and remains there for up to two years.

You can remove this voice data from servers only by disabling Siri and disabling Dictation so that everything is removed.

How to disable dictation on iOS devices

  • To do this on your iOS device, go to Settings  and tap  General .
  • Tap Keyboard .
  • Find the Enable Dictation option and disable it. This will completely disable voice commands for your iOS device.

How to disable Siri on a Mac

Disabling Siri on Mac is as easy as on an iOS device.

  • Click the Apple menu,  select  System Preferences  and click
  • Deselect Enable the Ask Siri option  to completely disable Siri on your Mac.

If you want to remove your voice data saved through Siri on Apple servers, you will do the same thing you do with iOS devices: disable or disable dictation.

  • To disable or disable dictation, click Menu> System Preferences  and select  Keyboard .
  • Click Dictation .
  • Turn off dictation . This not only removes all your voice data from Apple servers, but also disables voice commands on your Mac.

Why you should remove your voice data from Siri and Apple servers

It’s easy to delete or remove your data from Siri and ultimately on Apple servers. For privacy-conscious people, this is especially important if you are concerned about the type of digital recordings that Apple might hold about your conversations with the virtual assistant.

Apple uses this data for testing and classification purposes to improve the service. Initially, they listened to the Siri commands that iOS or Mac users asked the virtual assistant as part of the evaluation program, but this has since been suspended.

That said, you may want to rethink how you use Siri, but at least now you know how to disable Siri on your iOS device and how to completely remove any trace of voice data from Siri on Apple servers.

  • If you want to disable the Siri History collection, go to Settings> Privacy  and click on  Analysis and improvements  at the bottom of the Privacy screen.
  • Turn off the Enhance Siri and dictation option if it’s on, as this means that your iOS device can share voice clips with Apple.

As long as you have disabled this option, you can be sure that Apple cannot review or archive the audio of your future interactions from your device.

Note:  For users with multiple iOS devices, disabling the Enhance Siri and dictation setting on both devices does not disable it on all devices. You need to disable it separately on each of the iOS devices you use.
